Calling all people who have no interest in high intensity sports teams, yet who want to stay active mentally and physically.  If you can walk, you can dance.

No tutus, no tights, no nutcrackers, this is a time for you to rejuvenate your body and your brain.

Sample various styles of dance (Modern, Creative, Folk) in a non-competitive, nurturing atmosphere.  In each class we will use various techniques to warm up, explore dance concepts such as space, time, and body and develop and review some dance skills.  We will combine and use these movements and then cool down with relaxation and stretching activities.   Come and use dance as a balanced workout to reconnect the body and mind, and to release tension.   No partners required, no competition, no stress, just moving and dancing at your personal level.  Wear comfortable clothing.  We will dance with bare feet.

Janina Dobkowski is a Dance Educator with extensive classroom, stage, and workshop experience.   She has taught in college, elementary school  and various ages in between.   Janina was a Physical Education and Dance teacher for over 12 years at Samuel Staples Elementary School, Easton, CT. Taijiquan (T'ai Chi Ch'uan) is the highest expression of the Chinese "internal martial arts". It develops awareness of the workings of both body and mind through slow movement, rounded forms, and the expression of various body energies, all of which require a combination of intention, concentration and, ultimately, relaxation. Taiji practice leads to strength, awareness, and general well-being. It is a form of Qigong (energy work) that also can have real effects on the world around us. No prior background in taiji is required, and students at all levels of competence are accepted.

Myles MacVane  has been studying and practicing taijiquan (t'ai chi ch'uan) since 1968.  Myles' s teachings derive from his teachers in the Yang lineage, specifically the late professor Cheng Man-ch'ing (Zheng Manqing), his protιgιs, William C.C. Chen and Bejamin Lo, and his current teacher, Alex Dong. Myles has taught taiji since 1973 for the departments of continuing education in New Milford, Brookfield, Wilton, and Westport, the Redding Meditation Center, and in Ithaca, N.Y., and Albany, CA., among other places. Myles looks forward with great anticipation to instructing at the Easton Community Center.
